Fundamentally, and in practice, Christian Science is the antipode of both New Thought and theosophy. It is not an irreligious metaphysical system based on a premise of human and divine mentalities, or the outgrowth and development of Oriental superstition and philosophy. Christian Science is the religion of Christ. Jesus used in his parables the figures of speech current in his time. And Mrs. Eddy has elucidated the teaching and practice of Christianity. As she says in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 146), "Divine metaphysics is now reduced to a system, to a form comprehensible by and adapted to the thought of the age in which we live." This does not make Christian Science a "lateday cult" in any sense of the words; nor does it separate Christian Science from its eternal purpose, as the spiritual explication of the Word of God, "uncontaminated and unfettered by human hypotheses" (Christian Science Quarterly, p. 2). That these are the facts is evidenced by the conformity of its works to the requirements of that Scriptural touchstone, "Ye shall know them by their fruits."
