Christian Science has caused so much joy, happiness, and...
Christian Science has caused so much joy, happiness, and peace to enter into my life that I hardly know where or how to begin to express my gratitude, not alone for this great truth, but to all those who have so lovingly helped me over the hard and rough places. I am especially grateful for the Christian Science practitioners who have had the moral courage to stand firmly for Truth in all trials, and through whose work the world is rapidly becoming a better place to live in. Everything that I have, or ever expect to have, I owe to the study of Christian Science. It has lifted me up out of a life of dissipation that was fast wrecking my entire home, and has made me better in every way.
It is with a deep sense of humility and gratitude that I tell of a healing that occurred to me a few years ago. While returning home from business, I injured my foot and ankle, but immediately dismissed all thoughts of it, without first properly correcting the suggestion of error, as we are taught to do in Christian Science. Upon my arrival home, some four hours later, I was barely able to stand on this foot. I immediately took up the work mentally as best I could; and the next day went about my duties as usual, although the foot was very badly swollen and I was obliged to walk with a cane. This was in itself quite a demonstration, as I was obliged to use five different modes of conveyance in getting to my place of business, which consumed from three to four hours each way.
At the end of two weeks, I was ordered by my employers to report my condition to the company surgeon; and as the accident had occurred while on their property, I did so. After a very careful examination the surgeon stated that not only had the foot been broken, but the ankle was broken as well. He further stated that it would be necessary to set the bones immediately, and place the foot in a plaster cast, at the same time expressing the conviction that the whole member would always be deformed. I refused to allow him to set the bones, and started for home. Later that same night, it was observed that the splintered ends of the bones were protruding through the flesh, and it was thought advisable to ask help of a loving Christian Science practitioner. This was done, and work in Science continued at intervals all during the next day, which was Sunday. At about five o'clock in the evening all pain suddenly left me, and in a very short time all swelling had vanished. The bone splinters had disappeared, leaving slight discolorations where they had been. These, too, left withing a few days. My foot was normal in every respect. The following day, Monday, I was able to be about my business as though no discord had ever been manifested in my foot. I have never had the slightest inconvenience from this injury.
