[Written for the Sentinel]

Healing

Long had seemed the seeking
For peace and perfect health;
The care and pain still lingered,
Midst others' joy and wealth.

One morning came a message:
Help us! The need is great!
Quickly, I rose rejoicing
To another good to take.

Joy, as on wings, went with me,
And deeper, fuller grew.
No thought of self intruded;
God's love alone I knew.

Love was proved availing;
The need was fully met.
I also learned, in loving,
False selfhood to forget.

The golden sheaves were garnered
To the new-old glad refrain:
What ye? He is risen.
My joy to serve again.
