After reading the article in the Christian Science Sentinel...
After reading the article in the Christian Science Sentinel of May 15th, entitled "A Word in Season," which should surely mean something to every Christian Scientist, I am prompted to send in my testimony in gratitude for what Christian Science has done for me and mine.
I have been healed of chronic bowel trouble from which I had suffered from childhood, also of hemorrhoids, from which I suffered for over a year, and was never free from pain day or night. In overcoming these diseases I had the help of a kind and loving practitioner at different times, but being young in Christian Science I depended on her help much as one would on a doctor, with the result that I was not relieved of suffering until I discovered that there was work for me to do—and earnest work at that. As Mrs. Eddy says in Science and Health (p. 10), "Seeking is not sufficient. It is striving that enables us to enter." So with me, just mere seeking in a vague way did not do the work, but it required long and earnest striving to gain an understanding of God as good, and to overcome the sense of fear, and when the fear was gone the disease went with it. My healings were slow, but I am the more grateful for that now as it made me work the harder, and the spiritual uplift gained from that study means more to me now by far than the physical healings.
We have had many, many healings in our family of three since coming into Christian Science about seven years ago. Our daughter, now fourteen years of age, has had many healing in Science; one in particular I wish to mention took place in 1914. It was an instantaneous healing of croup, which she seemed to have every time she took a cold. She has had but one attack since, which was soon overcome through the understanding of Truth. My husband was healed of the liquor and smoking habit through reading "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.
