The Monroe County Republican

Under the caption, "Self-Hypnosis not Uncommon," a critic in the Republican quite plainly displays his ignorance of Christian Science and of the Christian Science method of healing when he states, "His patients believe in him (the Christian Scientist) and that they are going to be cured, and they are." Christian Scientists heal by the same method Jesus employed. He said, "The Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works." The Christian Scientist must know of the omnipotence and omnipresence of God; God must be All-in-all to him, and the producer only of that which is good; then he may be sure that whatever comes to disturb or annoy is not of God, and has no real power, for God is All, and He is the only power. God is the Physician in Christian Science. The psalmist sang, "Bless the Lord, O my soul ... who healeth all thy diseases." It is because Christian Scientists are taught to understand the Bible better than they understood it before that they are able to heal by the power it reveals.

In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, on page 110, we read, "In following these leadings of scientific revelation, the Bible was my only textbook. The Scriptures were illumined; reason and revelation were reconciled, and afterwards the truth of Christian Science was demonstrated."
