Rending the Veil of Materialism

Spiritual vision rends the veil of matter. It reveals the spiritual universe and gives the revelation of God. The veil of selfishness is the hardness of human nature. This acts as a mental mist to prevent the spiritual vision of love, the vision of unselfishness, from being seen and made useful. Human will power using force upon the problems of the day produces the most difficult way of solution; pessimism and negation block the easy way of Spirit, which uses the simplicity of love. God knows no defeat. God is not subject to death, nor has man, His perfect reflection, ever died. There is no veil between God and the real man. On page 165 of "Miscellaneous Writings" Mrs. Eddy says: "The last appearing of Truth will be a wholly spiritual idea of God and of man, without the fetters of the flesh, or corporeality. This infinite idea of infinity will be, is, as eternal as its divine Principle. The day-star of this appearing is the light of Christian Science—the Science which rends the veil of the flesh from top to bottom. The light of this revelation leaves nothing that is material; neither darkness, doubt, disease, nor death."

Spiritual vision rends asunder the veil of ignorance, blind intellectualism, and mortal conceit. Christian Science gives the understanding that God heals the faint-hearted, weak-hearted, and hard-hearted. There can be no hardening process of the human organism when it is governed by divine Love, for Love's power makes man flexible, so that the veiling which is the false concept of man is rent asunder, and the real ways of man are made plain. This is following the call of the prophet Joel: "And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God." The parting of the testimony of the material senses so that the testimony of the spiritual senses can appear, is the rending of the veil. This can be accomplished at all times, for Jesus showed the way and Mrs. Eddy has explained in her writings how Science can be used to bring about practical demonstrations of the vision of Truth. The vision of Love rends the veil of hate. The veil of hate is black indeed, trying to cover the joyous vision of Life; but Life cannot be hidden by false claims of hatred.

The healing of Christian Science has rent many a veil of tears and suffering for thousands who have sought the shelter of its wings, and like the butterflies have left their confining abode to enjoy God's sunshine. Blessings innumerable follow Christian Science healing; in fact, it brings a continuance of blessings to be passed along to a waiting world, like flowers of God's promise with the smile of Spirit uplifting and comforting many world-weary ones. The gladness of Christian Science is well worth accepting, for it lightens the burden of the day and lifts the veil of sadness, grief, and remorse. Christian Science shows how spiritual desires sing and soar into the heights of the ideal man.
