It seems to me that gratitude, the recognition of blessings, is one of the greatest virtues a Christian Scientist can cultivate. How frequently we are admonished in the Scriptures and in the publications of The Christian Science Publishing Society to be grateful! This testimony of some of the many benefits I have received is an expression of the gratitude I feel to Christ Jesus, to Mrs. Eddy, and to all those who are laboring for the uplift of mankind.
Christian Science came to me in my darkest hour, when all hope of finding the way out of the enigma of mortal existence was almost extinct. I had searched diligently for four years, studying the religions of the East, also looking into their modern settings, giving my time and attention to this one pursuit,—that of finding the truth. I followed this objective with all the proverbial daring and whole-heartedness of youth, only to arrive at emptiness and despair, at a point where, while seeing the mockery of mortal existence, I did not catch the glory of the spiritual world.
While I was in this state of well-nigh hopelessness, I was called upon to read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy to a member of the family who was suffering a great deal, and not only was my brother helped but I received a blessing also; for I realized that here was the truth for which I had been searching. Since that time, about six years ago, Christian Science has been unfolding to me the glories of God's creation,—man and the universe. It lifted me quickly from great depression to radiant joy, such joy as seemed too good to be true, but my Christian Science friends would assure me that nothing is too good to be true. It has healed me of sicknesses as they appeared, solved my problems, and is literally meeting my every need; and I am happy to say that other members of the family also have in the last few years taken up the study of Christian Science and are experiencing the blessings that inevitably follow such a course.
