Fourteen years ago, while filling my first term as teacher,...

Fourteen years ago, while filling my first term as teacher, I suffered so much from cramps and backache that all preparation for the next day's lessons was done while flat in bed, and considerable time was lost from the schoolroom. Glasses were worn for all study work, and had been used for more than six years. A tendency to sprained ankles made walking often painful, and a violent temper caused much unhappiness, remorse, and self-condemnation.

At this time Christian Science was brought to my attention through the healing of a sister, and an earnest study of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, awakened hope, and joy, and confidence. Knowing that the prayer, "Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean," is answered to-day as surely as it was nineteen hundred years ago with the beautifully compassionate answer, "I will; be thou clean," there came patience to overcome temper and hate; and as some understanding of divine Love entered consciousness the physical inharmonies disappeared. Cramps and backache ceased, and only once have they tried to return in all these years, and then by reading Science and Health I was free from discomfort within thirty minutes. The glasses were at once discarded and have never been worn again, though years have since been spent in art work, demanding constant use of the eyes. The ankles finally ceased turning, and daily it is being proved that a hateful temper is no part of the spiritual man, created in the image and likeness of God, Love.

For these many blessings deep gratitude goes out to our loving and faithful Leader, Mrs. Eddy, who by her earnest devotion to the Christ-idea has shown us all the way by which we, too, may understand the ever present Christ.
