Remembering how eagerly at one time I searched our periodicals for testimonies of protection and healing in confinement cases, I am sending an account of my own experience in the hope that it will help some one. During the months previous to the birth of my little girl, I spent nearly every waking hour in the effort to understand and apply to each daily task the rules of Christian Science as set forth in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I cannot say, as some people have testified, that the birth was painless, which is probably accounted for by the fact that I unconsciously retained the recollection of two previous experiences under medical treatment; but I can truthfully say that all the so-called laws of mortal mind concerning rest, quiet, and diet thereafter were trampled underfoot, with no ill effects. A short time after the nurse left, the baby manifested some trouble with her eyes, generally supposed to be due to infection. The practitioner gave treatment for this condition, which seemed to be quite serious, and the healing took place about ten days later.
At another time I was instantaneously brought out of a condition which in many cases is fatal under materia medica treatment. I am firmly convinced that for a few moments I was actually passing through the stage of mortal experience called dying; but the practitioner's understanding of Truth cleared away this false sense, and my condition became normal.
We have depended on Christian Science to supply our every need for the past eight years and have had many other wonderful healings in our family of six. Abscesses, measles, chicken-pox, colds, fevers, earache, toothache, cuts, bruises, bowel trouble, biliousness, burns, sprains, poisoning, and pneumonia have been overcome. Through the study of the textbook the Bible has become my much loved daily companion, whereas before using the "Key to the Scriptures" it was not off its shelf for years at a time. The story of Jesus' life is now an everyday help instead of a bit of faraway and well-nigh incredible history. One of the things for which I am thankful is the privilege of having received class teaching from one of Mrs. Eddy's loyal students. We also rejoice that we can know that God supplies our every need every moment, as we trust Him; that we are learning to look away from the material sense of things into the spiritual and eternal, wherein "all is infinite Mind and its infinite manifestation" (Science and Health, p. 468). Is it to be wondered at that having received such manifold blessings through Christian Science as given to the world in a demonstrable form by our beloved Leader, I should wish to express my gratitude by telling others of the good that is in store for every one who faithfully studies and endeavors to apply its rules? So to live that my light may shine before men and I may thereby glorify my Father which is in heaven, is my heartfelt prayer.—
