Regina (Saskatchewan) Post

A clergyman as reported in the Post says, "Christian Scientists say there is no anxiety." It is advisable in criticizing other Christian denominations before the public to be exact. He has never read such a statement in any Christian Science literature. The word anxiety is found but once in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and that is on page 586, where it is used as a synonym for fear. It certainly seems that except as one conforms to the Christianity Jesus lived and taught there is every cause for anxiety. What Christian Science does teach is, that by forsaking a human, material, or hypothetical basis as a ground for reasoning and acceding to the spiritual standard Jesus exemplified and taught anxiety may be destroyed here and now. All are familiar with the words: "Take no thought for your life. ... But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." This is the remedy. Every Christian Scientist knows that only as he succeeds in this, does he become exempt from anxiety, and in this proportion does he prove the truth of Mrs. Eddy's words on page 494 of Science and Health: "Divine Love always has met and always will meet every human need. It is not well to imagine that Jesus demonstrated the divine power to heal only for a select number or for a limited period of time, since to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good." Anxiety is a state of perturbed thought peculiar to human sense, and is corrected by understanding the divine antidote of God's unerring and unfailing protection and supply.
