In the beginning of July, 1916, I had a severe attack of neuralgia in the head. The pain would set in during the night and often last until morning, with nausea and vomiting upon my getting up. I worked against this trouble along the lines of Christian Science, and, thanks be to God, was able to perform my duties every day; but about a week later I experienced attacks of such severity that had I not known of the healing power of Truth I would have summoned a physician during the night. Instead, I asked a Christian Science practitioner for help the next morning. Very soon after she started treatment I felt relieved, and when about eleven o'clock at night a call came to assist in a case of confinement, as I am a midwife, I was able to go without either fear or pain, but with the assurance that God was my help. Disturbances occurred during the following fortnight, but they were less violent and of shorter duration. Although very much engaged professionally at that time, I was able to attend to my daily duties besides.
I thank God for having been led to find the truth, for it has been my shield and buckler. I have had the privilege of experiencing many times, in my own case as well as with relatives, that God is our ever present help. Last winter my little eight year old nephew was taken ill. Soon fever and cough set in, and after nine o'clock the little fellow became very much frightened, as he felt he was choking. I asked for treatment that evening, and in less than an hour he quietly fell asleep. He slept all night without coughing once, and in the morning went to school. This boy at the age of four, when I took him into my home, was afflicated with chronic catarrh of the bowels, but through Christian Science was completely healed of this annoying and very painful trouble. Thus I would say in the words of the psalmist: "In God I will praise his word, in God I have put my trust; I will not fear what flesh can do unto me."
