Wooster (Ohio) News
A clergyman is reported as saying that Christian Scientists exalt the Founder of their religion instead of Christ Jesus. It is true that Christian Scientists love Mrs. Eddy, but they do not exalt her above the Founder of Christianity. This would be contrary to Mrs. Eddy's own teaching. One cannot think of a devout Lutheran not having profound respect for Martin Luther, or of a Methodist not loving Wesley. Christian Scientists are deeply grateful to Mrs. Eddy, for it has been through her teaching that they have gained a more intelligent understanding of God, and of His Son, Christ Jesus. Her teaching has been the means of awakening a greater interest in and love for the Bible. In addition to this, hundreds of thousands of people have been healed of suffering, sorrow, worry, and trouble, and their lives transformed through this ministry.
It is not possible for any body of Christians to honor more highly and to have greater love for Jesus the Christ than do Christian Scientists. Christian Science teaches that we best prove our love by practising what Jesus taught.
