From Our Exchanges
[The Christian Intelligencer]
It is the one great duty of the church, its privilege, the supreme opportunity in its history, to prove its faith in the Lord's truth, to utter his message in the face of all antagonism, to hold aloft above the world's strife and battle his grand ideal of love fulfilled in brotherhood. For years past the interest of the modern world in social conditions and the questions arising from them has been a challenge to the church to turn upon them the light of this law of Christ; and Christian scholars have unfolded the rich content of social truth that lay enwrapped in the teaching of the Master. Today as never before the church and the Christian are called to defend this truth against the boldest foe it has ever met, and confidently to claim its pertinence to the uttermost human association, to make it the law for the world. The church should be the training camp for the officers of this kingdom of love.
