It is with a deep some of gratitude that I acknowledge...
It is with a deep some of gratitude that I acknowledge God's goodness to me, for when divine Truth lifted the dark clouds that had been hanging over me for years, all became as bright and beautiful as if a new world had been revealed. Sorrow was changed to gladness, and then as never before I understood God's love and power.
To mortal sense I had been a great sufferer for over fifteen years, and a complication of diseases was fast dragging me down. As the years passed by I continued to grow worse; then the crisis came. I was confined to my bed, and for weeks was kept under the influence of an opiate. The doctors decided that only an operation would save my life, but after it was performed the pain continued to increase. After two weeks more of this terrible suffering I was operated on again, this time for fistula; but when I recovered sufficiently to leave my bed, the old troubles for which I was operated on first soon returned. Later, I submitted to another operation; then the doctors told me I could never be cured of bowel disorder as the case was of too long duration, and stomach trouble was getting more severe every day, so that I ate only the lightest of food. After my return from the hospital I was again confined to my bed for months.
Here is where Christian Science found me. When the medical profession had nothing more to offer and the last spark of hope was dead, I heard the trumpet call of Truth and saw the walls of error fade into nothingness, for Love's brightness illumined the darkness. My heart overflows with thankfulness to God for having sent to us this understanding of the healing truth through our dear Leader. To Mrs. Eddy we owe an endless debt of gratitude for her devotion and faithfulness in this her labor of love. The dear people who came to our home bringing the glad tidings of great joy were strangers to me, but they knew God, and freely as they had received did they give of their understanding of this healing truth. They told me that God did not create sickness and did not afflict His children, and that if I would ask, believing, I would be healed. They gave me the address of a practitioner and I wrote to her asking for treatment.
