I was indeed a weary pilgrim, wandering hungry and athirst in the desert, when a messenger of this Christ-teaching presented Christian Science to me. I had no home, no father and no mother, and knew nothing about God as an ever present help; but I had studied our text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, only a very short time when I learned I had a Father-Mother God and a home in divine Mind.
The first Wednesday evening meeting I attended was in Kansas City, Mo., some ten years ago, in an auditorium in which there were more than a thousand people. I knew but one person in that great audience with whom I might speak, but before leaving the church that evening I had met many men and women, each one with a loving, helpful thought for me. Surely they had left the ninety and nine and gone out into the wilderness to find the lost one; and having found that one, reflected the light and warmth of divine Love.
The next morning I went to see a practitioner. I was such an unhappy mortal, as I seemed to be under a load of heartaches. When the practitioner had listened to me a few moments she said, "I will speak to you in the language of our Master, 'Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.' " I am glad to testify to the wonderful transformation that has taken place in my life through the healing and saving truth as taught in Science and Health. My heart goes out in unbounded thankfulness to God for sending me to this practitioner, who was instrumental in planting my feet upon the solid rock of Truth and starting me on the journey from sense to Soul. To those who are hungering and thirsting for spiritual food, and who have exhausted their faith in material conceptions as to God and man, I want to say from my own experience that there never was a place so dark but that into it the light has shone with its peace and joy, and as I try to stand in it day by day, it removes the shadows of physical and mental discord with glimpses of infinite Love and harmony.
