The Lectures
DES MONIES, IOWA (First Church).—Dr. Francis J. Fluno, lecturer; introduced by J. Latimer Davis, who said in part:—
The one individual in whom the perfect concept of God was manifested was the Nazarene, Jesus the Christ. So thoroughly did he understand God that he overcame for himself and others every discord which presented itself, even to the overcoming of "the last enemy," death. And knowing what was in man, he said with unhesitating confidence, "He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also." The fulfilment of this prophetic word of the Master was witnessed in the lives of his apostles and of the early Christians for some three hundred years after Jesus withdrew himself from the earth, and the sick were healed and the dead raised to life. But thereafter the clear vision seemed again to become obscured, and mankind drifted back into the former bondage to the discords of human experience.
There arose another individual, however, in our own time, in whom the seeing eye and the hearing ear were so clearly manifested that she was suddenly raised from a bed of suffering and pain, where she had been laid as the result of an accident considered by those in attendance to be hopeless of cure if not fatal in its effect. That individual was Mrs. Eddy. With a desire to give to the world the benefit of her discovery, she spent years of tireless effort in further study and in proving out the Science of her discovery. The results of her demonstrations are given in her book "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," a volume prized today by unnumbered thousands for the healing and freedom which the practical application of its teaching brings to them.
