In the report of the mothers' meeting at the Exposition...

In the report of the mothers' meeting at the Exposition Building, the statement is credited to the evangelist that "Eddyism is atheism." If by this he means that Christian Science is atheism, then it would appear that he has gained a knowledge of its teachings from some other source than the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, for from beginning to end this book unfolds to the reader "the one Supreme Being, self-existent and eternal," as the Standard dictionary defines God. Those who have formerly been members of other churches, testify that in Christian Science they have found what their ministers had failed to give them,—an understanding of God that is proving "a very present help in trouble." One of the tenets subscribed to by every one who unites with the Christian Science church is: "We acknowledge and adore one supreme and infinite God. We acknowledge His Son, one Christ; the Holy Ghost or divine Comforter; and man in God's image and likeness" (Science and Health, p. 497).

The evangelist also states that Christian Science depersonalizes God. If he had studied the above mentioned text-book, he would have found on page 116 the following statement: "If the term personality, as applied to God, means infinite personality, then God is infinite Person,—in the sense of infinite personality, but not in the lower sense. An infinite Mind in a finite form is an absolute impossibility." As there is but one God, there can be but one infinite Person. It will be seen that instead of depersonalizing God, Christian Science attributes to Him a higher sense of personality than does scholastic theology, which in holding the theory of three persons in one, cannot conceive of them as infinite. There cannot be three infinites.
