It is with feelings of intense gratitude that I send this testimony...
It is with feelings of intense gratitude that I send this testimony of my healing in Christian Science. For fifteen years I suffered from heart attacks, which constantly handicapped me in my work as a nurse. Eight years ago I was told by a doctor that I must not attempt to do active nursing, as night work or lifting a patient would be impossible. From that time until I came to Christian Science these attacks came on after fatigue or strain of any sort. In August, 1912, I was very ill and felt I could not keep on in any ordinary way much longer. My sister, who had been a student of Christian Science for some time, was anxious for me to have treatment, but I was much annoyed at this and said I was quite sure religion could not cure what the doctors had said was incurable. To avoid further argument I said I would like to consult a heart specialist who had seen me four years before, and if he gave no better report I would then try Christian Science.
We came to London, and the specialist gave me no hope of a cure. I then told my sister I would see a Christian Science practitioner, though quite sure it would do no good. I was so full of antagonism that I was not conscious of any benefit from the first treatment, but the loving thought of the practitioner was stronger than my opposition and I promised to go again the following day. I soon realized that the teaching of Christian Science was quite different from what it had seemed to be, and gradually my antagonism broke down. After five weeks' treatment I found myself able to do more than I had attempted for years. At first I waited for the pain that used to be experienced after any exertion, but it did not come. Since my healing I have had a severe attack of influenza, but through the help of the practitioner it was overcome in five days, and with no effect on the heart, whereas in the old days there was always the fear that it would not stand the strain.
Words are inadequate to express my thankfulness for the teaching of this beautiful truth, and my prayer is that I may be faithful to its Principle, and be able to help others.
