I have given my testimony in our local church quite often, and have now awakened to the fact that the publication of it may be helpful to the larger field reached through the Sentinel. Seven years ago I left Omaha, Neb., for Denver, Col., as I thought to advance along business lines. On arriving there I found myself a very sick man, and went to see a doctor. From childhood I had been under a belief of inherited diseases, among them diabetes, from which three of my uncles had passed on and to which my father succumbed after a surgical operation. Besides this I suffered from chronic stomach disorder, to which was added heart trouble due to excessive smoking, also a combination of other ailments, fears, superstitions, and so on.
I never had much faith in doctors and medicine, because seven operations to which my mother submitted had left her worse than ever. Consequently, when I failed to improve after having electrical treatments and taking large quantities of medicine, and was then told about Christian Science and asked to attend a Wednesday evening meeting, I went to it. At the reading room the following day I began the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, but failed to understand it, partly because I was not sufficiently familiar with the English language.
The year following, having returned to Omaha, Neb., not any better and not caring much about anything or anybody, yet still being interested in Christian Science, I attended a lecture, and then took up the study in earnest. With the help of a practitioner I soon began to improve slowly but steadily, and now am free from all the diseases named, also from the tobacco and drink habits, and from a skin disease manifested on my hands. Christian Science also quickly dispelled the sense of sorrow over the passing on of my father. Having been accorded the privilege of class instruction, I now rejoice in a clearer understanding of this wonderful truth revealed to us by our revered Leader, Mrs. Eddy. Another blessing that has come to me is that a brother, and my only near relative in the United States, has been able to understand Christian Science and be benefited by it.
