It is over thirty years since I first heard of Christian Science and proved its efficacy. The first case of healing in our family was very wonderful. One of our children was in a serious condition from what was pronounced by two doctors to be diphtheritic croup, and no hope was given us. A Christian Scientist was sent for, although we were strangers to this teaching, and the child was quickly relieved, could breathe easily and swallow; then the voice was perfectly restored, and in a few days the little boy was well.
During all the years since then we have daily received blessings unspeakable, for which we certainly are thankful to God. The healings our family have had are innumerable. Scarlet fever, diphtheria, broken bones, a severe burn, acute lung trouble, blood-poisoning, piles, sprains, and nervous breakdown have all been overcome. The beauty of these experiences is that the healing always took place as soon as we had faith to believe God's word; there was no lingering between health and disease. We have the promise, "The Lord's hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear;" and in Science and Health (p. 96) we read, "Love will finally mark the hour of harmony, and spiritualization will follow, for Love is Spirit."
I am also thankful for the protection which Christian Science affords us. I appreciate our literature very much, and never feel lonesome any more, because I always have plenty to read. I am also very thankful for class instruction. I wish I could find language appropriate to express my gratitude to the noble woman, Mrs. Eddy, who has given us Science and Health, by which we gain the true interpretation of the Scriptures.—Jennie D. Harmes, Detroit, Mich.
