In an article on the subject "Worry the Disease of the Age," a reference is made to Christian Science which shows that this religion has met a real need, and all Christian Scientists are thankful for such expressions of good will as are contained therein. It is true that to fear and worry must be attributed the ills to which flesh is heir, and that as fear and worry are states of mortal consciousness, the writer of the article in question really supports the teaching of Christian Science that disease has a mental rather than a physical cause, and recognizes that because Christian Science has done much to eliminate fear and worry from human consciousness it has been successful.

It must be remembered that Christian Science has been successful because it is a teaching that goes to the foundation of things. It shows that there is one God, omnipotent, omnipresent good, infinite Life, Truth, and Love, and because of this infinitude there can in reality be no evil to be afraid of, or to be conscious of. This does not mean that to the human consciousness there is nothing to fear or to worry over, but that it is ignorance and false belief which is the cause; that to be healed of fear and worry it is therefore necessary to remove the cause, even ignorance and the false belief in a power apart from or antagonistic to God. This can only be done by becoming conscious, or having an understanding, of the fact that there is one God, and that He is infinite,—infact, by knowing the truth about God and His spiritual, perfect creation, which must be like its source,—pure, spiritual, perfect. This is the truth, the knowing of which our Master said should make us free.

The world at large has all down the centuries been believing in a God who loves and hates, sends joy and sorrow, health and disease; and it has suffered in consequence. Christian Science has come teaching the exact opposite, and that is why it has met the real need of a knowledge of the one true and only God, infinite good. Such teaching as this is not the elevation of the human mind to power, but the acknowledgment of God as the only power; not a belief in human will, but the understanding of divine, efficacious Love; not the mere repetition of prayers, but the affirmation and understanding of the truth,—and it is this which heals.
