A number of years ago I became dissatisfied with the church of which I had been an active member for years, because I was not getting the necessary spiritual food. Christian Science had been mentioned to me, but I had taken no interest in it, thinking it was something like mental science, which had been investigated and "found wanting." In 1904, however, I obtained a copy of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, and in reading this book I became assured that this was a true, practical, and satisfying religion.
One day, while reading a testimony in the Sentinel, there came to me the realization that I did not need glasses as a help to sight. I took them off then and there, and have never worn them since, although they had been used for fifteen years, and two specialists had told me I could never leave them off without first having an operation on the eyes. This was a proof to me that even a small understanding of Christian Science corrects wrong conditions, and I was delighted at this evidence of the power of Truth to destroy error. Since then I have identified myself with Christian Science, and have tried truly to help others as I have been helped.
After beginning systematic study of the text-book, I realized that I needed to be healed of many things, among which were sensitiveness, self-consciousness, and discontent. Then too I had suffered for years from severe headaches and spinal trouble, but these have all disappeared through the operation of Truth in consciousness; indeed Truth has been found equal to every emergency. At one time I fell and broke some ribs, but although there was much swelling and discoloration, I was not in bed a day and was able to be around the house and do most of the work. With the help of a practitioner the sharp pain was overcome very quickly.
