I would like to express my gratitude for the many benefits...
I would like to express my gratitude for the many benefits that have come to me since hearing of Christian Science. I first turned to this teaching on account of family troubles, and although the help received was not what I expected, I now begin to see that an all wise and all loving Father knew what was best for me, as the solution I looked for would not have been lasting or to my best interests.
I would however like to mention that my ankle, which had been badly injured in an accident, and which had been in a plaster cast and bandaged for two years, suddenly ceased to give trouble or pain, except in a few cases when the ground was excessively rough. The tobacco and liquor habits were also overcome in a few days. It is for the spiritual uplift that I am especially thankful, as I am a better man in all ways since studying our Leader's works, which make so much of the Bible plain to me where its meaning always seemed more or less hidden before.
In the summer of 1915 a forest fire raged close to my home. The wind was driving it right in my direction, so I hurriedly removed from the house everything I could and put the different articles in a boat to take across to a government wharf. Bits of burning moss, wood, and bark were dropping all around me, and the bed took fire, but I saw it in time to put it out. When I went back to the house the fire seemed more intense for a short time, and with smoke nearly blinding me I almost gave up hope of saving the building. I had, however, been trying to know that all is possible with God, and that it was not His will for me to be burned out of house and home again (this was the second time in three years), when the wind suddenly veered, so that the house was saved.
