Having enjoyed and profited by the testimonies in our...
Having enjoyed and profited by the testimonies in our periodicals for more than a decade, I feel that I should not longer postpone a brief statement of the myriad benefits I have received from Christian Science. Prior to this time physicians were frequent visitors at our home, and although suffering was little lessened thereby, we clung tenaciously to material methods. Finally three sisters in the bloom of young womanhood passed away, two of them from supposedly inherited lung trouble.
My father was an earnest Bible student, and during the illnesses of my sisters he searched the Scriptures to discover how Jesus and his early followers healed the sick, being fully convinced that such healing was taught in the Bible and should be continued by Christians today. When told that Christian Science claimed to heal as did the Master, he purchased an early edition of the text-book. He was, however, warned against its study by ministerial friends; and when a little later he was about to pass on, becoming concerned lest some member of his family might be led astray by this book, one of his last conscious acts was to warn them against its teachings.
As a young man I was afflicted with a variety of physical weaknesses, attributed to overstudy and hard work. I was also a victim of quick temper, frequently in a pitiable mental condition from discouragement, and was greatly in need of a rudder to steer my course in life. Gradually these troubles left me, as I gained an understanding of Christian Science, although much still remains to be corrected. My first physical healing was of an eruption that came each summer, said to have been caused by poison from certain vines. My health steadily improved from the beginning of my study and has been excellent for several years. Two children, aged twelve and eight, have never tasted medicine, and their robust health is frequently remarked. My wife relied entirely on Christian Science during a very violent attack of typhus fever, when she was stricken while far from home. Much kindness was shown her by Scientists, and the understanding of its Principle saved her life and restored her to her loved ones.
