Las Animas (Col.) Leader
The good people of Las Animas have lately been misinformed about Christian Science through channels narrowed by religious bigotry and material concepts and poisoned by sectarian bias. A large proportion of those who are now Christian Scientists were at one time as greatly opposed to what they imagined Christian Science to be as are these misguided misinformants; but when the understanding of the truth about Christian Science was gained, prejudice gave place to praise and denunciation was silenced by demonstration.
The starting point of Christian Science is given by Mrs. Eddy on page 497 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," this being the first of the religious tenets of Christian Science: "As adherents of Truth, we take the inspired Word of the Bible as our sufficient guide to eternal Life." Those who understand Christian Science bear witness to the fact that its teachings are in strict accord with Scripture, and no one can claim that its practice is aught else, for through the application of Christian Science the sick are healed, the sorrowing are comforted, sinners are reformed, and unbelievers are reclaimed. These are the works which were wrought by Jesus, and which he promised would attest true discipleship. He too was maligned and stoned by church dignitaries, because he put deeds above creeds and displaced all materiality by his proofs of the omnipotence of Spirit. It is appropriate at this time to repeat his words addressed to his traducers, "For which of those works do ye stone me?"
If the things charged against Christian Science and its Discoverer and Founder were true, there would be no need of voicing them now, for Christian Science would never have spread as it has and found acceptance and approval by great numbers of the highly intelligent people of all civilized countries.
