For nine years I have found Christian Science a wonderful preventive as well as curative agency. Before turning to it I had undergone two abdominal operations, which left me with backaches and headaches that were both frequent and distressing. I had suffered ten years from chronic bowel trouble, which medicine failed to cure and other forms of treatment relieved only for a time. I went to a Christian Science practitioner with no thought of receiving physical healing, but to learn something of this teaching. Thinking I needed an excuse for visiting her, however, I told her of the bowel condition, so after a few moments' conversation she started to give me a treatment; but I asked her instead to tell me about Christian Science.
For one week I went daily to this practitioner, who wisely said little, but tried faithfully to answer my many questions. During this time I realized that the bowel condition was healed, the headaches and backaches had vanished, and I was well. My whole concept of God, man, and the universe had also changed. I had been brought up in the Jewish faith and had tried to conform to its teachings. The ritualism which I had thought was a part of my very being, dropped from me completely, and for the first time I knew the meaning of the passage, "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord." Needless to say, the physical ills have never returned.
I am humbly grateful for the many blessings that Christian Science has brought into my life. Among them I might mention the overcoming in a degree of fear, worry, resentment, and self-love. My daily prayer is that I may express more humility and gratitude to the giver of all good, our Father-Mother God, and to His servant, Mrs. Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science and the author of its text-book.—Saidee W. Peckerman, New York, N. Y.
