In speaking of functional nervous disorders, a critic says Christian Scientists treat them by suggestion applied in ignorance. This is not the case. The practice of Christian Science is not the practice of suggestion, but is the application of one's spiritual understanding of the truth which Jesus referred to when he said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." To have the Mind of Christ is to think as Jesus thought, and to think as Jesus thought will enable one to do the works that he did. He did not heal the lepers, the blind, the lame, dumb, and deaf, nor raise the dead by any means of suggestion. His method is described by Mrs. Eddy on page 476 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" as follows: "Jesus beheld in Science the perfect man, who appeared to him where sinning mortal man appears to mortals. In this perfect man the Saviour saw God's own likeness, and this correct view of man healed the sick." It is just in proportion as Christian Scientists have the Mind of Christ that they are enabled to emulate the works of our Master.
