It is over twelve years since I first heard of Christian Science

It is over twelve years since I first heard of Christian Science. Thinking it a kind of faith cure, I paid little attention to it until a friend came to see me who was looking so well and happy that I inquired what had happened, and was told she had become a Christian Scientist. There was no chance to question her, but her appearance made a great impression on me, and I determined to try Christian Science if I ever met a practitioner.

Soon afterward we moved to Boston, and had lived in that city about a year when my landlady fell and hurt her shoulder so badly that she was unable to raise her arm. After trying material remedies, baths, and electrical treatment without getting any relief, she asked for Christian Science treatment, and received so much help she was a changed woman in every respect. I therefore asked the practitioner to treat me, as I was suffering from backache and scarcely ever knew what it was to be without pain. I was helped immediately, and have been healed not only of that trouble but since then of many others.

When taken with a severe case of influenza, I decided to try to work out my own problem and not be so dependent on others. The third day I was looking so badly my family wanted to send for a physician, but I refused to have one. That night I awoke with a very high temperature and the pain was intense. All I could say was that God is good and God is absolute, but after a while I was able to repeat the twenty-third psalm with its spiritual interpretation as given on page 578 of Science and Health. All at once I felt refreshed, and a sense of peace came over me. My mouth became moist and all pain left. The next morning I got up, not entirely well but knowing I soon would be. Ear trouble, which had annoyed me for several weeks, had disappeared, and it has not returned.
