It is nearly ten years since I first became interested in Christian Science. For thirteen or fourteen years I had been suffering from what was called muscular rheumatism, and had been treated by the best medical doctors. At times I had some relief, but was seldom free from pain. Through the study of Christian Science I have been healed not only of that disease but also of other ills and discords to which I was subject. My healings have not been instantaneous; I have had to work hard and faithfully, but by so doing have received the blessings.
On September 16, 1916, I was struck by an automobile going at a high rate of speed and rendered unconscious, besides being to all appearances severely injured. My wife and daughter were notified, and a Christian Science practitioner was reached by telephone within a few minutes after the accident, so the good work was begun almost immediately. Those at the scene of the accident, however, rushed me to the hospital, where an examination was made and the injured parts were bandaged. The doctors feared the shoulder might be broken, but on being told that I depended upon God for the healing they allowed me to be taken home. A surgeon was called to set the broken bones, but for the healing I had Christian Science treatment only.
I think my experience was wonderful. The left foot was badly sprained, and I was told it would be a long time before I could use it; but on the fourth day I used it enough to go from my room to the bathroom. The right shoulder was also severely injured, and the same prediction was made respecting it; but on the sixth day I shaved myself, using my right hand to hold the razor. A broken rib knit in two weeks; also a severe wound on the right side of the head, and that which the doctors feared might be a fractured skull, have been healed,—all through the blessed knowledge of Christian Science.
