One evening about five years ago I was passing a hall where a lecture on Christian Science was being given. Curiosity led me to enter, and after listening for a time I was convinced that what the lecturer stated was true. The following Sunday I went to the Christian Science reading rooms and began to read the literature.
Some time after this I had a severe illness, and not having enough understanding of Truth to protect myself, I was persuaded to call in a throat specialist. The trouble was diagnosed as laryngitis, and I was told that it would affect the lungs and that there was no hope for me. This was a great shock to my family and myself, but I dismissed the doctor and then went to a Christian Science practitioner for treatment. I had lost my voice and could speak only in a whisper. After having treatment my voice came back, and I felt so uplifted that I went home to comfort my family with the received, namely, that there was hope and life for me.
I felt that I was healed in that first treatment, but a few weeks passed before the full manifestation came. In view of the fact that I had not spoken above a whisper for a year, and was suffering from hemorrhage of the lungs, to me this seemed quite wonderful. I then took my books and the Lesson-Sermons and went to work in earnest. This wonderful change in me so impressed my wife that she said it destroyed all her fear concerning me. She was so convinced that what I had was the truth, that she left her church, and
