From Our Exchanges

[Shailer Matthews in The Constructive Quarterly]

The ethics of Jesus, his faith in a loving God as well as in a God of justice, his insistence upon the superiority of the personal over the economic, have long since passed beyong the limits of any ecclesiasticism, and too often unrecognized have become a part of the democratic tendency itself. The church ought to seize upon and adapt itself to this fact. The preacher of righteousness should be possessed of a contagious idealism that shall spread beyond the limits of his own immediate congregation into the social movements of the day.

[Rev. Joseph Fort Newton, D.Litt., in The Christian Commonwealth]
