The Rocky Mountain News
A recent correspondent who refers to Christian Science asks, "What reason can be found for using the creator of the universe as our symbol of goodness?" To Christian Scientists the Bible teachings furnish sufficient reason for their conception of God as good, and in addition this is supported by logic, for the creator of the infinite, eternal universe must be good in both essence and expression, since evil is destructive in its very nature and tendency.
To those who are unacquainted with it, Christian Science may appear fallacious, but to those (and they are many) who have found freedom from sinful habits, surcease from pain and sorrow, and have realized spiritual peace and uplift through its teaching and practice, it is indeed the law of God, good. Christian Science demands and develops more than mere belief or blind faith,—even that spiritual understanding which can be and is proven in the most practical way in everday experience.
As Paul addressed the intellectualists of Athens who had erected an altar "to the unknown God," so Christian Science to-day speaks to all honest, humble seekers for the truth, and says to them, "Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you." And Christian Science declares God, good, to mankind, not only in its spiritually reasonable precepts but also in the greater good brought into men's lives.
