Every day I feel thankful for the privilege of being a student...
Every day I feel thankful for the privilege of being a student of Christian Science. I did not become interested in this teaching through any physical healing, but when told of it by a member of my family who became interested while I was away on a long visit, I knew at once it was the religion for which I had been looking; and so it has proved. I was laboring under a sense of self-condemnation because I failed to find what I wanted and what other people seemed to get in other churches. It is such a privilege now to be able to enjoy the study of the Bible and to do this studying intelligently. I have had a great deal of physical healing, some of it instantaneous and some very slow, and I am glad to know of the great Physician who heals all our diseases.
I would like to give one experience which occurred about a year ago, in the hope that it may prove helpful to some one else. In getting ready to go away for the summer I was very busy, and on the day of our departure I was conscious of having a sore throat, but ignored it. After a night on a sleeper, a belated journey the next day, and then a long ride in a cold rain to our destination, I felt very ill. At night I was obviously so sick that my husband was much disturbed, and finally I became fearful myself, as we were far from any help. After I went to bed the thought came to me clearly that I was just as near God there as anywhere, and that He is the only physician needed. Then I worked on mentally, applying my understanding of Christian Science, until in about three-quarters of an hour I was absolutely relieved of all the acute symptoms of pneumonia. I cannot tell how grateful I was to be able to prove the ever presence and availability of divine Love.
This experience taught me that ignoring error is not accomplishing anything; one should meet it squarely, recognize it for what it is, and cast it out. I am indeed grateful for Christian Science.
