For a long time it has seemed to me that I ought to express publicly, through our publications, my gratitude for the beautiful healing and the many other blessings experienced in Christian Science. This teaching was presented to me three years ago by a friend who handed me a copy of the Sentinel. When reading the testimonies I found one by a woman who had been healed of a disease similar to that from which I suffered. As I read on through the testimonies the light of their truthfulness, and the joy they expressed, made me think, if these people could be healed in Christian Science, why could not I?
I was said to be suffering from intestinal indigestion, organic heart trouble, inflammatory rheumatism, and an internal disease, besides a tumor from which much pain was experienced. Several physicians told me I could not get well; that I could not undergo an operation, as my heart was too weak, and that I must look for the end at any moment. It seemed as if the medicine given me for one disease worked against another. I always took something to make me sleep, but even when the doctor told my family he had done all he could, I still had hope.
About a month after reading the Sentinel I decided to attend the Sunday service at the Christian Science church. I went alone, but met my friend there, and after the meeting asked her where I could find a practitioner, as I wanted help. She gladly introduced me to one, and treatment was begun that day. After the first present treatment I was able to eat solid food, which had been denied me so long, without suffering any distress, but it was three months before I was free from all the ailments. The practitioner was very patient with me in explaining the many seeming contradictions in the Bible, so that it has become an interesting study, whereas before coming into Christian Science it was seldom read, although I was a member of a church.
