When not more than ten years of age I became subject to asthma, and passed many sleepless nights, while at times for days and nights in succession I was unable to lie down. Colds came so frequently that I was unable to attend school during the winter months until I entered high school. I could not do any heavy work, and no relief was experienced except from the use of injurious drugs, until Christian Science came to me some twenty years ago, when I found relief and finally experienced perfect healing. Many other ailments were overcome before the fear of asthma yielded; not until I could sweep and dust, and do other things without labored breathing, could I believe that my healing was complete.
Both organic and functional diseases have been overcome, sometimes through the help of a loving teacher and practitioner, sometimes through the reading of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. I have been healed of acute lung trouble, an internal injury caused by an accident, and weak lungs. A badly injured ankle was restored in a few days through the reading of Science and Health, so that I was able to stand or walk with perfect freedom. Many acute attacks of illness have yielded to the truth.
I am grateful for these benefits, but most of all for the spiritual uplift which Christian Science has brought to me, for a greater sense of love toward God and mankind, for the overcoming of impatience, nervousness, fear, worry, sensitiveness, and sorrow. When those near and dear to me passed out under medical treatment, friends wondered at the comfort Christian Science brought. Surely this truth is the promised Comforter. It sustains us through fiery trials, takes away the sense of loss, and gives us the priceless treasure of at-one-ment with God. I am deeply grateful for all of Mrs. Eddy's writings, for the periodicals, and for the Lesson-Sermons, and thankful to God not only for benefits received, but for the joy of helping others.
