It is with a heart full of gratitude that I testify to the many blessings which I and mine have received through Christian Science. In the fall of 1912 my six year old son became afflicted with pain in the back which at times was intense. The physician called it a tubercular inflammation of the vertebra, and as the trouble kept growing worse, I had to take the child to a hospital, where he remained four months and a half. He then seemed cured and was dismissed; but soon thereafter the trouble returned.
At that time I heard of Christian Science through two dear ladies and declared myself willing to accept this teaching, but unfortunately these ladies went away soon after. I often felt the impulse to read and study, but did not seem to get any hold on the subject; so when my boy again suffered intense pain, I returned to the physician, not being yet grounded in Christian Science. I rarely read the literature, in fact I seemed less and less able to understand it. When the doctor placed the child in a sanatorium and all the physicians gave but little hope of recovery, I became very disconsolate, and one day I went to see the ladies above referred to and quite frankly told them of the situation. They then kindly explained to me day by day the teachings of Christian Science, and helped me to take the child from the hospital and to have him stay with a Christian Science practitioner. According to medical opinion I would see my poor child limping and, as it were, an outcast; but in two weeks' time the child was able to come and see us with the kind gentleman who was treating him, and the healing went on steadily.
Next to God my gratitude goes out to the practitioner for the fatherly care bestowed upon my child, who is now well and romps about like other children. How often have I given thanks to God for this wonderful healing, yet I feel as if I could never be too grateful. I have also often experienced that the truth is not only a help in disease, but when properly applied is the most effective support under any circumstance.
