About twelve years ago a dear sister-in-law spoke to me...

About twelve years ago a dear sister-in-law spoke to me of having been healed in Christian Science, but the remark passed over my head and I made no comment whatever. Six years later there came a great need to know of this healing truth, and this sister-in-law wrote me more than once, gently advising me to study it. That just by reading a book I could help one who was suffering from serious illness, seemed to me so ridiculous that I did not even allude to the advice when answering the letters. Still later, friends living near offered the "cup of cold water;" but I put it aside, not knowing the refreshment it affords.

Finally, when the need of knowing the truth became more insistent, I had an experience which led me to go to the only source to find it. One night, while camping a few miles from home, I was taken with a violent toothache. There was no remedy for this in the little box which usually accompanied us, so I pictured a night of suffering. Then I began to wish I knew what Christian Scientists believed about healing, for I had always supposed it to be human will power. As I reasoned within myself, I concluded that they did not rely upon will power, but must believe in a supreme power which heals disease. Then came the thought: Why not? The power which controls the universe, which keeps the stars in their courses, and which regularly brings the harvest—why not?

Those who have experienced the power of Truth to heal will readily understand what came to me at that instant. I had acknowledged omnipotence, and the toothache vanished.
