I first became interested in Christian Science through the works of healing that were going on all about me, and a desire to know how they were accomplished. The study was taken up entirely from an intellectual standpoint, and my understanding came so slowly that I often wondered if it would be necessary for me to be healed of some physical ailment in order to gain it. My health being unusually good, that seemed a remote possibility; but I persevered, and other much needed healings came, — moral, mental, and financial.
Recently an opportunity came to test the efficacy of Christian Science in physical healing. In July, 1916, a bad case of skin disease developed. My slight understanding of Science enabled me to hold it in check, but the healing did not come, and it finally became evident that a practitioner should be consulted. I was in California at the time, and as I intended to return to Massachusetts in October I concluded to wait and consult a friend and practitioner in Boston. We were ten days traveling, with so little privacy that my daily study and reading were neglected. The result was an aggravation of the disease and a falling out of the hair which frightened me.
On reaching my destination in Massachusetts, I wrote to the Christian Science practitioner, describing my condition, and there was almost immediate relief. Within two weeks nearly all traces of the disease had disppeared, leaving only an unusual amount of dandruff. That soon disappeared, and within a month of the first treatment my scalp was in a perfectly healthy condition. My hair is now thicker than it has been since childhood. A great many years ago this same condition of the scalp had manifested itself, and was followed by a general breaking out all over the body, so that I was kept out of school for six months.
