Truth Seeker

A truth seeker is one whose aim is to find that which is true. Obviously, such a person needs to be sincere, openminded, and above all disinclined to prejudge. An insincere, narrow-minded, prejudiced person could never find the truth, because he would be prevented by his own mental darkness from finding the way out into the light. This may explain why many of the ideas that have blessed mankind have come to light in unexpected ways, outside the beaten paths of popular opinion and self-satisfied orthodox teachings.

I am led to refer to this matter because of an article headed "Christian Science," the author of which displayed a surprising unfamiliarity with and prejudice toward the teachings of Christian Science. In every instance he misrepresented the subject. Those readers who admire sound argument—and I am sure they are many—must have been impressed by the absence of it in the article referred to. To refer to a uniformly happy, healthy, law-abiding body of people as "neurotic, hysterical, religious epileptics" indicates anything but a truth seeking attitude.

The God of Christian Science is Principle. The aim of Christian Science, as taught by Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health, is to teach mortals to mold their thoughts and deeds so as to coincide with this perfect model. In no other way, Christian Science declares, can mortals become like Principle, or Godlike.
