[Written for the Sentinel]

The New Year's Advice

Clear-eyed prophet, what do you see
In the weeks of the opening year for me?

Shall I add to my store of worldly pelf?
Shall my horizon extend its span?
Shall I think of others instead of self?
Shall I know more love for my fellow man?
Shall I do with joy what there comes to do?
Shall I put my heart into every task?
Shall I better divide the false from true?
Please read me the riddle; that's all I ask.

And the New Year answered: "Why wonder, pray?
Why question tomorrow? Live today!"
