As reported, a lecturer at the High School stated among other things that the "regulars" appropriated everything valuable in all other systems of healing, including Christian Science, and therefore should have the support of the people in their legislative work. I therefore beg space to correct any misapprehension existing in the minds of his hearers, as to the possibility of Christian Science being appropriated by the medical practitioners. While Mrs. Eddy in speaking of the mission of Christian Science states that through it "religion and medicine are inspired with a diviner nature and essence," she further states that "as readily can you mingle fire and frost as Spirit and matter" (Science and Health, pp. 107, 72).
Christian Science takes the healing of sin and sickness out of the realm of matter—speculation and experimentation—and places it, as the master Metaphysician taught and practised, in the realm of Spirit, or right thinking. This right thinking is based on God as Spirit,—all powerful, all knowing, ever present. Is this omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent good in need of or dependent upon a lesser power to make that which He originally made in His image and likeness well and happy? Can there be a lesser power than all-powerful good? No; not in the realm of the real. Therefore, with all honor to the noble, unselfish men in the profession of the regulars, who have devoted their lives in the tireless effort to ameliorate human suffering, we do aver that medical science, so called, is as a system speculative and conjectural, lacking a right foundation, and that nothing in its history merits the support of the people in securing for it special class legislation.
What the citizen of the world needs, is to harken to God's law which He has placed in their hearts and which gives them dominion over all the earth, and to know that "if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them." This glad day has already dawned in Christian Science, and through the study of its text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, man is awakening to and actively appropriating his birthright of health and happiness; of Mind as medicine; of allegiance and reliance on no lesser power than God.
