From Our Exchanges

[The Congregationalist and Christian World]

The spirit of Christmas adopted everywhere would make the earth a place of Christ's victory, for it would bring in the triumph of good will. There would be need of patience, and room for troubles still, but we should be so far along the road toward happiness that it would seem that heaven had come on earth. The difficulty of the problem of good will for each of us really begins in his own heart. We know that we are capable of good will, because we are made in the image of God and He has called us to grow more and more into His likeness. But what a difference between that good will of heart of which in our highest thoughts we know as privilege and duty, and that tainted lumber of dislikes, cherished misunderstandings, prejudices, and even hatreds which God discovers in some neglected ill will corner of our souls! Our individual problem of good will by the grace of God is soluble. It must be solved if we are to spend our Christmas time in the clear air of fellowship with God.
