I wish to express my gratitude to God for Christian Science,...
I wish to express my gratitude to God for Christian Science, of which I first heard five or six years ago through a lady staying in my house, who very kindly lent me some of the literature. For some time I had been searching for the truth, and this teaching seemed to be just what I needed. As far back as I could remember I had been a very despondent person, always suffering from some ailment, more especially severe headaches. I eagerly read the Christian Science literature, and gradually came out of bondage to those conditions and am now quite well. In numerous other ways help has been received, and I could not get along without Christian Science. My great desire is to understand more of the truth.
In January, 1915, I went to meet a friend who was coming by boat. Some trucks were being shunted, and as we were standing near the gangway, I with others had to move to one side. In doing so I somehow tripped over an iron bolt and fell between the ship and the jetty, striking some heavy piling. I have been told it was a fall of nearly twenty feet before I reached the water. I was quite conscious all the time going down, when suddenly these words came to me: "O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer." The next thing I remember was a hand somewhere near me. A brave man had dived from the jetty and caught me as I came up the first time. I was taken on board the vessel and the ship's doctor after examining me said there were no bones broken, though I was terribly bruised. I was then removed to a friend's house and put to bed. My friends could not understand why I would not call a doctor or use any material remedy, but I felt sure divine Love could heal as well as save me, and in less than a fortnight every trace of the accident had gone. I stayed in bed only a part of two days.
