[Prin. W. B. Selbie in The Congregationalist and Christian World]

The beauty and simplicity of Christ Jesus' doctrine of God, the rigor and splendor of his ethical standards, his new commandment of love to men, his preaching of penitence and assurance of forgiveness, the wonder of his cross and the power of his resurrection,—these all need to receive new emphasis and expression in the church of today. They cannot be learned from books or attained by any process of reasoning; but they come home to the humble and submissive heart of him who is content to follow the Master's way of service, obedience, and self-sacrifice. It is to the reverent, trustful, and adoring spirit of the disciple that the Lord Christ becomes known as "the chiefest among ten thousand" and the "altogether lovely."
