Testimony Giving
It is a privilege and a pleasure to tell of some of the good which comes into experience as a result of the study of Christian Science. Its faithful students are daily proving the truth of Mrs. Eddy's statement that "to all mankind and in every hour, divine Love supplies all good" (Science and Health, p. 494). They are learning how to appropriate the good things which divine Love supplies.
Not least of all the good which has been my portion, has come through the giving of a testimony. It was not easy to give my first one; indeed it seemed very difficult. While the earnest desire to do what our Leader had counseled was urging obedience as a token of love and gratitude in itself, there seemed to be a number of arguments to withhold the expression. After considerable thought a few faltering words were said one Wednesday evening at the service, and after they were uttered the testimony seemed a very unworthy offering. During the following week, however, there was wonderful activity in consciousness. More light had entered and much was seen which before had been hidden.
The effect of this increased activity was that on the following Wednesday evening I went to the meeting joyfully, and eager to continue my testimony. There was no doubt it was a worthier offering,—the clearer light had made it so. After this came a most beautiful experience, a holy joy, a spiritual uplift, with brighter, higher views of divine Principle, Love. There came also a clearer perception of the vast spiritual insight of the revered Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science. I perceived too that the giving of testimonies means a great deal more than had at first been apparent; that it is an important step, indispensable to individual growth and development, and a means by which all may begin to prove "the grand human capacities of being bestowed by immortal Mind" (Science and Health, p. 200).
