About six years ago my grandfather, my two children, and I were going to Montana to visit some relatives. At that time we were living forty-five miles from the railroad station where we were to take the train. On the way we ate some lunch I had prepared, and it seemed to poison the two children and myself. My grandfather did not eat any, and my husband, who was taking us to the station, had enough understanding of Christian Science to overcome the bad effects for himself. My understanding was, however, very small at this time. As we passed through a town, we stopped at a hotel for a short time, and the people there said we ought to call in a doctor, as I was in a bad condition, but I told my husband to take me to the place for which we had started, as there was a Christian Science practitioner there. There were ten miles more to drive, but we went on, though my husband said afterward he would not have been surprised if I had passed on. We had been at the practitioner's house not over half an hour when I was all right again, and helped to get supper while she treated the children. We were only delayed one train on our trip. While we were in Montana the little boy had typhoid fever, but with the help of a faithful practitioner he was well in less than a week.
Three years ago I found that another child was coming to us, and I was unable to walk much or to be on my feet without fainting. We still lived far from any Christian Science practitioner and I could not help myself, so we wrote for treatment and then decided to move so as to be near a practitioner and also a church. It was a long journey, but I stood the trip finely. We asked for help, and soon I began to do my housework. When the baby came I had an easy time compared to former experiences of this kind under the doctor's care. The baby is so happy and healthy that people speak about it. Measles, whooping-cough, scarlet fever, chicken-pox, colds, and other ailments in the family have likewise been overcome.
My heart overflows with gratitude and love for Mrs. Eddy, who was so good and pure as to be able to tell the world of this wonderful truth. My prayer is to live so as to be worthy to be called a Christian Scientist.
