In order to correct some misstatements regarding Christian Science and Mrs. Eddy, printed in an open letter, I would like to say that no student of Christian Science claims that Mrs. Eddy is the Comforter promised to humanity in the Scriptures. Jesus defined the Comforter as the "Spirit of truth," and Mrs. Eddy is thoroughly in accord with the statement of Jesus when she says, "This Comforter I understand to be Divine Science" (Science and Health, p. 55), and when she speaks of "the Comforter; the Holy Ghost that leadeth into all Truth; the 'still, small voice' that breathes His presence and power, casting out error and healing the sick" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 174).

Christian Science is not to be confused with any occult or mysterious teaching or religion; it is the continued working of primitive Christianity, of that spiritual insight which leavened the lives and works of prophets, seers, and saints from Abraham's day to our own, and of which Jesus the Christ is the perfect flower. Its appeal to human thought includes that prime requisite, the capability of being understood rationally and applied scientifically. Its results in purer lives, in healthier, happier, holier men and women, attest its divine origin.
