From childhood I had been subject to periodical spells of mental depression, which seemed to become more pronounced and of more frequent occurrence as I grew older, until I passed the age of forty, when they became quite burdensome, increasing in frequency and duration. Also to add to my discomfort came the complication of kidney and bladder troubles, accompanied by dull headache and a continual pain in the small of the back, this pain never ceasing day or night. Life was indeed a burden, and I cared not to live but was afraid to die.

My attention was directed to Christian Science by a salesman, who invited me to his church and also advised me to procure "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy. This I did, and after reading the book and attending the service I became convinced that my greatest need was of a spiritual nature, and that my healing could be accomplished only through a better understanding of God. After this I applied to a Christian Science practitioner for treatment and was greatly benefited. But being still unwilling to yield entirely to the demands of Spirit, I struggled along, footsore and weary, stumbling and falling at times, and almost willing to give up the fight, which seemed to beset me with overwhelming odds. But all through these times something seemed to whisper into my consciousness, "Press on; there is hope and victory for you."

After moving here in the fall of 1910 I pursued the study of Christian Science more diligently, becoming a regular attendant at the services, also receiving the help and advice of a practitioner. I was completely freed from one of the most stubborn conditions a human being could be afflicted with, and have since enjoyed perfect health and happiness. Several other difficulties fell away, and the tobacco habit also left me, not the slightest trace of it remaining, although I had been a salve to it since boyhood.
