A speaker was quoted in your columns as having said that "whatever was true in Christian Science was not new, and whatever was new was not true;" it was also added that he had made a thorough study of Christian Science.

To the student of Christian Science and those familiar with its teaching these statements are inconsistent, for such know that in the Christian Science text-book, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mrs. Eddy, it is nowhere claimed that Christian Science contains anything new. On the contrary, it is very plainly stated in this volume that what Christian Science presents is as old as God and creation. The fact is, Christian Science is nothing more nor less than the message which Jesus brought to humanity. However, it is the complete message, nothing having been added to it nor taken from it, "the undivided garment" (Science and Health, p. 142), teaching how to obtain deliverance from the bondage of sickness as well as sin.

While teaching his followers how to heal spiritually both disease and sin, Jesus gave these specific instructions: "Preach the kingdom of God" and "Heal the sick." He taught that it was no more difficult to heal sickness than sin; indeed, he made it plain that there was as much responsibility resting upon his followers to heal physical disease as to heal sin. This Jesus exemplified while healing the man "sick of the palsy," to whom he said, "Son, thy sins be forgiven thee," adding, "Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk?" This incident also shows how closely allied Jesus regarded sin and disease and their causation.
