It is not very unusual for critics to say that Christian Science denies the necessity for repentance, as does a minister whose sermon was reported in a recent issue, and such a statement could result only from lack of information regarding Christian Science teaching. The fallacy of such a claim will be seen in the fact that there could be no destruction of sin until there is an uncovering of the sin, and the repentance manifested that strives to forsake sin. The third religious tenet of Christian Science (Science and Health, p. 497) reads: "We acknowledge God's forgiveness of sin in the destruction of sin and the spiritual understanding that casts out evil as unreal. But the belief in sin is punished so long as the belief lasts."
